SOLD - 1954 UNIVERSAL GENEVE Polarouter Tropical Ref. 20217-4
Young Genta's Masterpiece.
The 'Polarouter' was first introduced in 1954, and the name quickly changed to 'Polerouter' in 1955. An extremely short-run of this first variant.
A horological icon, Gerald Genta is famed for many watch designs, this being his first. The elegant, twisted 'bombe' lugs and curve from side-to-front, and the distinctively textured index screams mid-20th-century luxury, with advertisements back in the day pushing this as 'the pilot dress-watch', flying the SAS (Scandinavian Airline Services) over the North Pole. With it's antimagnetic movement, and thinned down automatic movement, it has become an extremely collectible sub-cultural timepiece icon.
